Has anyone ever seen this before?

Georgia beat Tennessee Saturday 20-12.  The win gave Mark Richt 100 for his career.

The game also featured a couple of ugly series.

For Tennessee, probably the ugliest was when quarterback Tyler Bray tried to sidearm a ball past an oncoming defender, hitting his throwing hand on the facemask of the defended and fracturing his thumb.

For Georgia, we have video of a drive that no coach ever wants to endure (especially offensive line coaches).

At the end of the video you'll see Georgia punt.  It's about a 47 yard punt; but take note of where Tennessee catches it...it's about 8 yards short of the first down marker.  Ever seen that before?  Maybe on a terrible shank; but on a 47 yarder?

2 biggest surprises in FBS through week 6

Just took a quick look at the standings after most of tonight's action has gone final.

Two things truly stick out to us as things you simply could not have predicted at the beginning of the season.

First, that TCU would have scored at least 35 points in every game this season, yet is only 3-2 thus far.

Second, and just as shocking, that Hud would have his guys at Louisiana Lafayette 5-1 at this point (leading the Sunbelt). Yes, after their opening loss at Oklahoma State (61-34), the Ragin' Cajuns have run off 5 straight after beating Troy today 31-17.

Honorable mentions: Arizona being 1-5, 0-4 in conference. Illinois, Michigan, Clemson and Georgia Tech all 6-0. Kansas State being 5-0.

LSU loses a touchdown due to new taunting rule

9pm Update> Quote from Steve Shaw, SEC Supervisor of Football Officials, on taunting penalty called on LSU in first half. “Based on what was seen on the television replays, the LSU player turned towards two Florida players and made a taunting gesture. The rule as stated in the rule book was accurately applied.”

Original post:

Watch the video and you make the call. Did the refs get this one right?

There was a lot of chatter about whether this "taunting" was egregious enough to deserve taking 7 points off the board.

If you haven't seen it yourself, prepare yourself...the player in question is not LSU's quarterback, not one of their running backs, not a receiver, not even one of their defenders...yes, it's LSU's punter.  Kind of appropriate, isn't it?

Ellis Johnson's defense

Just a quick note about South Carolina's defense today in their 54-3 win over Kentucky.

South Carolina allowed a total of 6 first downs...they also forced 6 turnovers.

Kentucky's quarterbacks were a combined 4 of 26 for 17 yards with 4 Ints.

The only points they allowed were on the opening drive of the game after Kentucky ran the kickoff all the way to the South Carolina 26.  Held them to 15 yards and then a field goal.

Solid defensive effort.
