Rich Rod getting started at Arizona

Rich Rod was introduced today to the crowd at Arizona's home basketball game.

On the coaching front, we hear that he is "getting the band back together". We hear several guys that have coached with Rich previously will begin to show up next week in Arizona. We'll keep you posted as to who is coming and who isn't on The Scoop.

Gary Patterson congratulates the team

Once again, TCU is the Mountain West champion.

7-0 in conference, 10-2 overall. Not a bad season for the Horned Frogs. Their two losses were at Baylor in that week 1 thriller and a 40-33 OT loss vs. SMU.

After today's win over UNLV, Gary Patterson had these words for his guys.

UAB hires Garrick McGee

As we told you, UAB was looking to move fast. Screen Shot_2011-12-03_at_11.08.50_AM

This morning, we have learned that UAB has reached agreement with Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee to become their next head coach. McGee has been at Arkansas four seasons, serving as offensive coordinator the last two.

Over the past few years, Bobby Petrino has been very supportive of McGee following his dream of becoming a head football coach. McGee has been considered by athletic directors at at least 10 other programs over the past few years.

Prior to his time at Arkansas, McGee he spent four seasons at Northwestern (including two as OC). Prior to that he was at Toledo for a season and before that he was in the league as a quality control / assistant for Bobby Petrino with the Jags.

McGee played quarterback for two seasons at Arizona State (coached by Petrino) and then spent two more seasons as the quarterback at Oklahoma.

Update> Statement from Bobby Petrino released on Arkansas's website:

"I want to congratulate Garrick McGee on becoming the head football coach at UAB. I have enjoyed watching Garrick progress throughout his career and I am excited to see him get this opportunity. Garrick has been with me as a player and an assistant coach and I thank him for being a big part of everything we have been able to build here at Arkansas. The guidance he has provided our offense and quarterbacks the past four seasons has been immeasurable. Garrick grew up the son of a coach and is a natural teacher and leader. He will have a solid plan for the football program at UAB and the dedication to carry it out. Garrick, Tiffany and the entire McGee family leave with my gratitude for a job well done with the Razorbacks, and best wishes for continued success at UAB."

Video: Saban speaking to the Super Six coaches

Nick Saban spoke to the Super Six coaches (AL high school state championships) at a recent dinner and had some good points on the formula to create champions.

"You cannot win a championship until you are a champion, it doesn't go the other way. You don't win a championship and then you're a champion. You have to be a champion first to win a championship." Saban said.

He also touched on how to communicate with players by saying "There's a lot of ways to say things, and you've never got to be demeaning to a player to get him to do what you'd like for him to do".

He elaborates in the video below, worth a listen.
