Oregon's latest uniforms - Nike sets the bar again

Oregon2012Uni

In a much anticipated move, Oregon unveiled their latest uniform addition earlier today.

Eleven different materials are used in the jerseys and pants, with 16 different materials total used for adapt to the specific needs of the players during game day.

The feathers on the shoulder pads are similar to the ones that they wore in the Rose Bowl last season, and a new material, called "Chain Maille Mesh" was incorporated into the uniform to make it the "lightest and fastest uniform ever made."

Word is that a metallic green helmet, much like their chrome Rose Bowl helmet from last year will also be in the mix.

Chip Kelly weighed in on the new technology being featured and the new look overall.

"Nike has always done a tremendous job of integrating the input they have gathered from our players with a cutting-edge technology that maximizes their performance on the field. Every year I ask how they possibly can surpass their previous innovations and every year they deliver. Once again, Nike has set the standard in revolutionary uniform design."

Really good video from Wofford

Really good video here from FCS program Wofford.

The video takes a look back at last years highlights and shows many of the reasons that these guys made the playoffs and finished the season 8-4. There's also a few passionate pre-game speeches featured.

Head coach Mike Ayers is entering his 25th season at the helm of the Wofford program, which is a longer tenure than any other head coach in school history, in any sport. Ayers has led the program from NAIA to the D-II ranks and from D-II to the FCS.

Since 2000, the Terriers have made the FCS playoffs 5 times and won the Southern Conference title 3 times. Their winning percentage since 2002 (81-39, winning 68% of their games) is second only to Appalachian State.

As you can see, Coach Ayers and his staff have built quite the program and show no signs of slowing down.

Urban rewards team with a nap

After touching on the idea of "tapping out" and wrapping up a practice where Urban Meyer commended the team on practicing like an Ohio State team should practice, he rewarded them with some extra down time. Most players took that opportunity to get some extra shut eye.

Before camp started, Meyer had ordered a ton of air mattresses for the team, and explains why at the end of the clip. Great job here by ESPN.

Tuberville: The game is about to change

Tommy Tuberville believes that football, as we know it, is about to change.

With the renewed focus on head injuries, Tubs believes practice and overall game preparation are going to see some big changes.

It is really going to change the course of football and how it is played and how you practice it.”

Naturally being cautious in treating head injuries means that players will miss more game time which has the potential to have a major impact on the outcome of games.

“You’re going to see a lot of guys miss games, more than you ever have. Get ready. You’re going to have a lot more touchdowns.”

Notre Dame hype video

Only ten days away from their season opener against Navy in Ireland, Notre Dame released a hype video to get everyone excited.

This one's pretty good.

Monken explains the Air Raid

As Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman chatted with Todd Monken the other day, Monken explained that the "Air Raid" offense is actually pretty easy to learn.

Monken explained that the Air Raid "gives a guy a chance to kind of learn and maximize his measurable skill as opposed to thinking so much. But you’ve got to get your guys studying, get in the playbook instead of Facebook and Myspace and all the social network."

"The guys that really want to do that will put themselves into a position to play as opposed to those posting pictures and hanging out and chasing girls.”

“The key is, we’re rotating so many guys, the ones and twos are taking equal reps, it’s kind of hard to figure out.”

With the youth that they'll have contributing on offense, combined with the talent they lost to the NFL draft, Monken wants to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

“We just need to put together plays that looks like we know what the hell we’re doing. We’ve got enough talent. Just young. We’re just not very deep. Get all 11 guys doing the right stuff.”

Video: Malzahn awards scholarships to 4 walk ons

During a team meeting recently, Coach Malzahn awarded a scholarship to four deserving walk ons.

It was obviously a special moment for those players, and one in particular admitted to having his breath taken away when he realized his name was called. That's good stuff.
