Only 6 of the 18 head coaches hired in 2008 are at the same school

Today, we saw an interesting note that prompted us to take a look back at the head coaching turnover before the 2008 college football season. 18 new head coaches were named prior to the 2008 season. Of those 18, only six are still in the same job today (4+ seasons later).

Program Coach Record / Where they are now
Arkansas  Bobby Petrino  Not currently coaching
 Baylor   Art Briles  28-25
Colorado State  Steve Fairchild   Working with the San Diego Chargers
 Duke  David Cutcliffe   15-34
 Georgia Tech   Paul Johnson   36-21
 Hawaii  Greg McMackin  Retired
Houston   Kevin Sumlin   Now at Texas A&M
Michigan   Rich Rodriguez   Now at Arizona
Mississippi  Houston Nutt   Working for CBS Sports
 Navy  Ken Niumatalolo   33-22
 Nebraska   Bo Pelini   41-13
Northern Illinois  Jerry Kill   Now at Minnesota
 SMU   June Jones   24-24
Southern Miss  Larry Fedora   Now at North Carolina
Texas A&M   Mike Sherman   Offensive coordinator - Dolphins
UCLA  Rick Neuheisel   Working with the Pac-12 Network
Washington State   Paul Wulff   Offensive assistant with the 49ers
 West Virginia  Bill Stewart  Deceased

Fairly surprising that just over 4 years later, only 33% of these guys were still in place.

As you can see, of the head coaches still with their original school, Bo Pelini has accounted for the most wins (41). We saw an additional note from the Nebraska SID stating that Pelini is also one of only a handful (six) of other coaches to win at least 9 games in their first four seasons at a BCS level school (Tom Osborne, Frank Solich, Barry Switzer, Larry Coker & Bobby Petrino while at Louisville). Impressive.

This weekend, Pelini and the Huskers take on Wisconsin up at Camp Randall, and they'll be "spotlighting" some cool new shoes. The game can be see on ABC at 8pm ET.

Pete Carroll video: The 12th Man was friggin awesome

Pete Carroll's team won was ruled to be the winner in last night's game.

He was so happy this morning that he filmed this short clip for the fans. Enjoy

A look at Stanford's digital playbooks

Many schools around the country, including Stanford, have gone digital with their playbooks.

This clip provides a great look at how the Cardinal use their playbook app along with Hudl to prepare for games. Also, associate head coach / defensive coordinator Derek Mason weighs in on how the digital playbooks have made things more efficient for the coaching staff.

You can tell the players and coaches love the change.

Video: Experience 6 hours as a Spartan on game day

San Jose State and San Diego State had one of the better games of this past weekend, which resulted in a 38-34 come from behind win for the Spartans. In the fourth quarter alone, the Spartans scored 21 points, and the lead changed hands four different times.

Interesting video perspective here from the vantage point of a San Jose State player on game day. The clip finishes up with some good end zone footage, including a good look at the winning touchdown.

Hudspeth: There's no magic formula to prepare during bye week

Mark Hudspeth and the Ragin' Cajuns (2-1, 1-0) are coming off of a bye week after their first loss of the season (a 24-65 loss to Oklahoma State).

This week, Louisiana-Lafayette continues conference play, taking on Florida International (1-3). FIU is coming off a seven point loss to a Top 25 opponent in Louisville.

Towards the end of his presser yesterday, Hud was asked whether having an extra week to prepare has been helpful or hurtful in his past coaching stops.

"I did do a little self reflection, and went back and looked at a couple schedules of places that I had been before and looked at how we came out of bye weeks."

"We had some games where we came out really sharp, might have been because of the extra preparation. And then I went back and saw a game or two where we did not play very sharp. You look back and say 'Boy did we lose momentum or did we get sluggish?'"

"Whatever the course may be, the thing that I tried to stress upon last week is we try to keep our foot on the gas and condition hard and kept that edge in conditioning."

"I don't think anybody has the magic formula, I think that secret is still out there. I think it all depends on maybe the make up of your team, their maturity and how they handle things."

TCU adds a nitrogen chamber to aid in injury recovery

Last night we noticed this tweet from the TCU football account noting their addition of a nitrogen chamber.

The nitrogen chamber is believed to the be the first of it's kind in college athletics and will help athletes in their recovery and rehabilitation of injuries throughout the year.

Western Michigan rolls out sweet new uniforms

When Toledo comes to town Saturday evening Western Michigan will be sporting a new, edgier uniform.

We like it.

Adidas is holding their own with some of these alternate uniforms.

Update> We just got the "player reaction" video...watch the guys get pretty pumped when they get to see them, fell them, try them on. Pretty happy players.
