Great call on the game winning TD

This past weekend, NAIA foes Lindsey Wilson College and Belhaven University played a good one.

Belhaven was up 28-27 but was forced to punt with under a minute to play.  Lindsey Wilson got the ball at their own 30 with 28 seconds to play, no timeouts.

Freshman quarterback Branden Cresap opened the drive with a 40 yard completion, then spiked the ball to stop the clock. Next he found a receiver for a short gain who was able to get out of bounds. A quick hitting run went for 10 yards and had them at the 14 with the clock running.  Again, Cresap spiked it...this time with just under 10 seconds to play.

Head Coach Chris Oliver had to decide whether to bring the field goal unit in now, or make one attempt into the end zone.

We'll let the video show you the rest.  Enjoy the announcer from the 0:30 second mark through the 0:40 mark.

Oklahoma State at Texas A&M (notes)

Big game this weekend at Kyle Field as Oklahoma State (#7) comes to town to play A&M (#8) (3:30 on ABC / ESPN2).

A couple of notes caught our eye.

This is the first time two Top 10 ranked teams will play at Kyle Field in 36 years. Surprising.

Oklahoma State is attempting to do something they have never before done...win back to back games at Kyle Field.  Never?

Through two games, A&M has not allowed a sack and is leading the nation averaging 5.5 sacks per game (11 total thus far). Last season, with Von Miller who personally recorded 10.5 sacks on the season, the Aggies didn't record their 11th sack until the 7th game of the year.

Mike Sherman said he didn't stay up to watch the Oklahoma State / Tulsa game that started after midnight and went on probably until right before he woke up; but he said he came to the office at 8AM, right after mass, and his staff already had the tape ready for him. Nice work guys. Dedication.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is in his seventh season and last week's victory over Tulsa was his 50th.  Prior to his arrival, Oklahoma State had never before been ranked in the Top 10...he's done it four straight seasons now.

Ought to be a good one.

Jerry Kill in his own words (and they are feisty)

Bobby Knight spent some time with Coach Kill earlier this week.

Sounds like some of The General rubbed off on Kill.

Spend two minutes with this video and you'll agree.

These stats are unreal

Georgia Tech has won it's first three games 63-21 over Western Carolina, 49-21 over Middle Tennessee and 66-24 over Kansas.

A couple of stats to consider...

Tech is currently leading the nation in rushing with 428 ypg and total offense with 675 ypg.  Might as well throw in #1 in scoring offense as well with 59 points per game.  #1 in passing efficiency as well. Yes, we're talking about Georgia Tech.

Now some of the more interesting ones...

Georgia Tech has 9 touchdowns of 50 or more yards this season. There are 38 FBS teams that haven't even scored 9 touchdowns.

They have scored at least 5 rushing touchdowns in every game.

They have scored on their first offensive play in each of it's 3 games.

Four different players have rushed for two touchdowns in a game this season.

They are currently averaging 7.9 yards per rush and 35.4 yards per completion.

They are 15 of 15 in red zone scoring (14 TDs and 1 FG).

They have six one play touchdown drives.

Georgia Tech has 4 pass plays this year that went for 70+ yards. That is more than any other conference has.

Combined with two running plays of 70+, Tech's 6 offensive plays of 70+ yards are more than every other conference except the SEC which has 7 conference wide.

Just unbelieveable.

Georgia Tech hosts undefeated North Carolina Saturday at noon. Should be a good one.

No TV Wednesday

Another long night at the office...no live games on tonight.

A few more weeks until the Sun Belt teams begin to play on Tuesday nights.  Shortly thereafter we get some Big East on Wednesdays and then, come November, the MAC makes us all that much happier when they begin playing every Tuesday night.

Everyone loves the MAC.
