Defense wins

Remember the article from a few days ago talking about Florida's explosive offensive playmakers vs. Alabama's stingy defense?

Well, we're pretty sure who won that battle.

Alabama held Florida's "Rainey and Demps" to 8 yards on 14 carries....and Alabama didn't allow a Florida running back to rush for longer than 7 yards on any play (backup quarterback Jeff Driskel did have one run for 31 yards...the longest rush Alabama has allowed this season).

Alabama's defense dominated this game...which Bama went on to win 38-10.  In total, Alabama's defense allowed just 15 yards rushing on 29 attempts. After the first play of the game (on which Florida connected for a 65 yard touchdown pass), Alabama held Florida's offense to a total of 3 points on 15 yards rushing and 142 yards passing.

Video: Tom Osborne and Barry Alvarez

For those of you that love these guys (or one of them) and have a few minutes...

Coach Osborne and Coach Alvarez sat down and spoke about what they miss, why they coached, what they believe in and how they see the current landscape of college football.  Fairly candid remarks throughout.

BYU beats Utah State on the last play

Watch these two short videos and you'll understand.

Friday night started out so well for Utah State

But ended so badly

We're pretty sure no athletic directors are calling Utah State to schedule out of conference games anymore.

Friedgen: I've burned my diploma...flying a Ga Tech flag now

Former Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen went on Baltimore radio yesterday and spoke with host Glenn Clark about a number of topics.

Most of the interview was as expected...spent time talking about some of his players in the NFL, the kids I recruited are working hard, we stay in touch, I'm proud of them, I miss the players, I don't miss all of the stuff though, etc...

But at the 9 minute mark it got weird:

Host: Is it tough for you to watch?  Have you sat down and watched any Maryland games...I know it has to be a little painful.

Friedgen: Well, it's not painful because I watch it for the kids. I could care less about Maryland. I've burned my diploma. I'm flying a Georgia Tech flag right now.

Host: [laughing] That's hurtful. I don't want to hear that Coach. I'm a Maryland alum.

Friedgen: Well, they talk about Maryland pride. They didn't show me a whole lot of Maryland pride, either getting the job or getting fired.

Friedgen also shares a great moment about not being able to get the game on TV at his house so he went to a sports bar to watch..."I never knew all that stuff went on...they've got people cheering for all this stuff....geez, this is a whole new experience."
