Bielema: "We're sexy"

Honestly, it's hard to argue with him, the Badgers do look pretty good right now...

After their game Saturday night, a 48-17 win over Nebraska, Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema said, "We're sexy...I still believe that we're Wisconsin and what we are....we're just extremely good right now."

Hard to argue that the Badgers haven't looked very impressive in their five opening wins (51-17 over UNLV, 35-0 over Oregon State, 49-7 over Northern Illinois, 59-10 over South Dakota and 48-17 over Nebraska).  Sure, they've all been at home; those numbers are pretty impressive.

Yes the schedule will get tougher in the second half of the season; but for now, we're rollin' with Bielema, the Badgers are "sexy".

Wisky is off this weekend; but then they play Indiana, travel to Michigan State, play at Ohio State, host Purdue, at Minnesota, at Illinois and then host Penn State.

Zook to Petrino: Don't be cautious

Illinois improved to 5-0 on Saturday with a hard fought, come from behind, victory over Northwestern.

Illinois scored 28 points in the second half (21 in the 4th quarter) to rally for a 38-35 win. Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase opened some eyes going 21-32 for 391 and 3 TDs (1 Int). Scheelhasse also carried the ball 20 times, including the game winner with just 13 seconds to play.

After the game, Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald said, "Illinois did nothing that we didn't work on and nothing that we didn't prepare for, which is probably the most disappointing aspect of the whole day."

Going into the game, offensive coordinator felt that they had to throw the ball down the field against Northwestern's defense and he told coach Zook that. Shortly before the game, Zook walked up to Petrino and told him, "Don't be cautious today." Petrino said those words gave him a lot of confidence.

Around the 0:45 mark of this video, Petrino describes telling his thoughts on the game plan and then the impact it had on him when Zook gave him some encouragement.

Take note of what Clemson is doing

11AM Update> We just saw a quote from Frank Beamer to his team in the locker room after the game..."Keep working, and we'll get them in the ACC championship game.  Write it down..."

Original story:

"We had just enough offense and just a whole heck of a lot of defense." - Dabo Swinney Saturday after their win at Virginia Tech.

Swinney has his guys 5-0 with the last three wins over Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech.

The Tigers held Virginia Tech without an offensive touchdown for the first time in 16 years in Blacksburg.  16 years.

For most of this season, Clemson's offense has been carrying the load.  Saturday, it was the defense.

The rest of the schedule, like everyone else's, won't be easy; but here's what Clemson has left...

Boston College

at Maryland

North Carolina

at Georgia Tech

Wake Forest

at N.C. State

at South Carolina

We'll keep an eye on Dabo and the Tigers and we suggest you do as well.

Here's coach after the game with some great comments about his team.

The Ravens' defense was downright nasty last night.

High School:

Teaching moment

Cornell beat Wagner 31-7 Saturday.

The game saw one odd play.  In short...Wagner's punter drops the snap, then tries to get the punt off; but it gets blocked. That's not the strange part.

The long-snapper winds up picking up the loose ball...but he then runs the wrong way...25 yards before being tackled just short of the goal line.

Teaching moment...we should all have a call that every player knows to yell when a teammate is headed the wrong direction.
