Houston's offensive staff put together an impressive performance last night

Houston's offensive staff helped the Cougars offense put up some ridiculous numbers last night as they beat Rice 73-34 to stay undefeated. The Owl's owned the time of possession category by a large margin (38:35 to 21:25), but the story of the night was the efficiency of the Houston offense.

Offensive coordinator and receivers coach Jason Phillips and quarterbacks coach and play caller Kliff Kingsubry led the way for the offense as they churned out 656 yards in the rain. Case Keenum set the FBS career touchdown mark on his way to 534 yards and 9 touchdowns for the night (Keenum was 24 of 37 (65%) on the night and averaged 14.4 yards per completion). Phillips, and inside receivers coach Tony Levine, also got an impressive performance from Patrick Edwards with 7 receptions for 318 yards and 5 touchdowns, an average of 45 yards per reception.

Offensive line coach B.J Anderson and running backs coach Clarence McKinney helped keep the pressure off Keenum and the ground game rushed for 122 yards.

Well done.

Good friends coaching tonight (impressive stat)

Al Golden said that there isn't another coach in the country that he has spent more time in the film room with than Virginia's Mike London, which makes plenty of sense when you take a look at their history.

Golden and London were on the same defensive staffs while at Boston College (1997-99) and then spent years together again at Virginia working under Al Groh (2001-04). Golden served as the defensive coordinator and London served as the defensive line coach.  After Golden left to take the Temple head coaching job, London left his stint in the NFL to take over the defensive coordinator role, and eventually (after winning a national championship at Richmond) as head coach.

The game will mark the third time this season that Mike London has met a coach that he was once on staff with.  The other two times include meetings with William and Mary's Jimmy Laycock (a 40-3 win) and NC State's Tom O'Brien (a 14-28 loss).

Here's an impressive stat for you, we noticed that if Golden wins this game, they will both have exactly 32 wins as head coaches.

The Cavaliers and Hurricanes will kickoff at 8 eastern on ESPN.

Video: Kansas' facilities are impressive

Take a look at this video tour of Kansas' facilities. Pretty impressive.

The 80,000 square foot Anderson Family Football Complex was finished in July of 2008 and includes two practice fields, and some of the most remarkable facilities in college football. The complex also includes coaches offices, meeting rooms, the locker room, and an impressive weightroom.

Kiffin: Stanford's offense is abnormal

After practice this morning Kiffin was asked about this weeks match-up with Stanford, and what makes them so difficult to defend.  In his response, Kiffin didn't focus on Andrew Luck. Instead he turned his focus to Stanford's selection of personnel and formation.

In response to a question about Stanford using 3 tight ends and extra linemen as well, Kiffin offered:

They go goal line, sometimes in the middle of the field, so all your corners and safeties have to work on their fits and be able to tackle at the line of scrimmage...and you have to worry about play action because they have the whole field to work....I don't think anybody is [doing this], this is just abnormal. The 6, 7 or 8 offensive linemen in the middle of the field on 1st and 10. They've started a game on their minus 20 with no receivers in the game. So I don't think anybody's ever done that, at least not in the last 50 years.

At the end of practice, Kiffin held an open tryout for the kicker position. One of his defensive lineman said he had kicked in high school. Kiffin's response, "We're not going to do that."
