"That was a blue collar butt whooping"

Western Kentucky lost their last 8 games in 2008. Didn't win one in 2009; and they lost their first 6 in 2010.

However, since week 7 of last season, Willie Taggart's bunch is 5-8 (Taggart was hired after the 2009 season).

Saturday they got their first home victory of the season (also the first since 2008...and the first ever home victory over an FBS opponent), 42-23 over Louisiana Lafayette (who came into the game 6-1, 4-0 in the Sun Belt). Coach Taggart's got himself a running back and a team that's willing to work hard and play as a team.

Watch the video and see sheer exuberance from the players after this win. Taggart's pride in the effort his guys showed on the field is evident. Given the historical significance of the win for his program, his words and pride seemed extremely justified.

Kiffin: I'm sure mass was full this morning in South Bend

Saturday night was supposed to be a big event for Notre Dame football. It was the first night game there in over 20 years. Music was piped in between plays (oh my) and they even rolled out special gold for the helmets. Clearly, a lot of planning went into this one.

Unfortunately for Notre Dame, Lane Kiffin had his guys well prepared for this one and USC came out on top 31-17.

The video below is pretty good as well; but we just noticed this quote from Lane from Sunday afternoon, "I'm sure mass was full this morning in South Bend after all the things that were said to us.

Video includes some of Kiffin's pre-game, halftime and post-game talks to his team.

It's all about the turnover margin

The more we look at it, the harder it is to ignore the importance of the turnover margin.

Every undefeated team is ranked in the top 20 of this stat: Oklahoma State (#1), LSU (#2), Boise State (t - 7th), Houston (t - 7th), Kansas State (t - 10th), Clemson (#12), Stanford (t - 15th) and Alabama (t - 19th).

We noticed this morning that LSU has now gone 335 straight offensive plays without giving up a turnover. It sure is easier to win when your defense doesn't have to defend a short field.

We've reached the TV milestone

We just noticed that beginning with this week, practically for the rest of the season we have live action on 7 nights a week.

Yep, most of the way out, we'll have MNF on Monday, college games on Tuesday - Saturday and then the NFL on Sundays.

Upon further review...every night between now and the Tuesday before Thanksgiving there will be at least one live college or pro game.  Phenomenal!

Sunday TV

Wow, late night TV last night was excellent. Michigan State with the hail mary to beat Wisconsin and then Tubs being Tubs beats Oklahoma in Norman. Great stuff.

Today it's the NFL's turn. All times Eastern.

NFL:

Regional coverage on CBS and Fox for the 1pm and 4:15 games.

Indianapolis at New Orleans - 8pm - NBC

College:

None

High School:

None

Stanford is on a historic roll

Stanford just beat the tar out of Washington 65-21...and Washington is not bad.

We saw a note earlier tonight that with this win, Stanford has become the first team since 1936 to win 10 straight games by 25+ points. 10 straight by 25+...that is awesome.

Tonight, they were facing Washington's defense that came into the game ranked 17th in the country in rushing defense. The Cardinal rushed 44 times for 446 yards (10 ypc). That is impressive. Really impressive.

In all honesty, Andrew Luck's stats were efficient; but not exciting 16/21 for 169 with 2 TDs.

That's a good football team.

If they make it 11 straight by 25+ next week, Lane Kiffin is going to be one upset coach considering the huge win they had tonight over Notre Dame. Always fun to watch Kiffin call a game.  Stanford at USC next Saturday at 8pm on ABC. Don't miss it.

Sparty beats Wisky on the last play

Great game tonight.  Both teams fought hard; but as we all know, someone was going to win...

And in this case, that team is Michigan State (who is now 6-1, 3-0 in the Big Ten).

With the game tied at 31 and 3 seconds remaining in regulation, Kirk Cousins took one last shot into the end zone.  Watch the video to see how it went down.
