Illinois improved to 5-0 on Saturday with a hard fought, come from behind, victory over Northwestern.
Illinois scored 28 points in the second half (21 in the 4th quarter) to rally for a 38-35 win. Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase opened some eyes going 21-32 for 391 and 3 TDs (1 Int). Scheelhasse also carried the ball 20 times, including the game winner with just 13 seconds to play.
After the game, Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald said, "Illinois did nothing that we didn't work on and nothing that we didn't prepare for, which is probably the most disappointing aspect of the whole day."
Going into the game, offensive coordinator felt that they had to throw the ball down the field against Northwestern's defense and he told coach Zook that. Shortly before the game, Zook walked up to Petrino and told him, "Don't be cautious today." Petrino said those words gave him a lot of confidence.
Around the 0:45 mark of this video, Petrino describes telling his thoughts on the game plan and then the impact it had on him when Zook gave him some encouragement.
