Fast people come from the South

CBSsports.com released some interesting information earlier today combining the 40 yard dash times of everyone that participated in the event at the NFL Combine, and then averaged it out and sorted it based on where the player was born to determine which state is the fastest. We noted that other than a couple of speedsters from Michigan all of the other top 5 states for producing fast players are south of the Mason-Dixon line.
The in depth research that they put into the article is equally as impressive. For example, the speed rich Florida area got broken down into three counties for a closer look; Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade. The entire state of Florida ran a 4.79 average, but when it came down to the three counties, Palm Beach County came out on top with a 4.69 40 yard average time, while Broward County clocked in at 4.73 and Miami-Dade topped out at 4.84 average.
Take a look at the chart below for the full results. A couple things to keep in mind; the list only includes states that had more than two players participating, and the data for the skills positions does not include quarterbacks (or offensive or defensive lineman).
