These stats are unreal

Georgia Tech has won it's first three games 63-21 over Western Carolina, 49-21 over Middle Tennessee and 66-24 over Kansas.

A couple of stats to consider...

Tech is currently leading the nation in rushing with 428 ypg and total offense with 675 ypg.  Might as well throw in #1 in scoring offense as well with 59 points per game.  #1 in passing efficiency as well. Yes, we're talking about Georgia Tech.

Now some of the more interesting ones...

Georgia Tech has 9 touchdowns of 50 or more yards this season. There are 38 FBS teams that haven't even scored 9 touchdowns.

They have scored at least 5 rushing touchdowns in every game.

They have scored on their first offensive play in each of it's 3 games.

Four different players have rushed for two touchdowns in a game this season.

They are currently averaging 7.9 yards per rush and 35.4 yards per completion.

They are 15 of 15 in red zone scoring (14 TDs and 1 FG).

They have six one play touchdown drives.

Georgia Tech has 4 pass plays this year that went for 70+ yards. That is more than any other conference has.

Combined with two running plays of 70+, Tech's 6 offensive plays of 70+ yards are more than every other conference except the SEC which has 7 conference wide.

Just unbelieveable.

Georgia Tech hosts undefeated North Carolina Saturday at noon. Should be a good one.

No TV Wednesday

Another long night at the office...no live games on tonight.

A few more weeks until the Sun Belt teams begin to play on Tuesday nights.  Shortly thereafter we get some Big East on Wednesdays and then, come November, the MAC makes us all that much happier when they begin playing every Tuesday night.

Everyone loves the MAC.

On the way to game...bus catches fire and destroys all equipment

Thankfully, all of the players and the staff were able to get off without injury; but Western New Mexico's football program lost everything else in the fire.Screen_Shot_2011-09-21_at_8.51.16_AM

The team was on the chartered bus heading to Durango, CO to play Fort Lewis Friday afternoon.  A fire broke out in the cargo compartments and the bus wound up being totally engulfed in flames and burned completely.  Not a single person was injured but all of WNMU's football equipment was destroyed.  Everything.

The game went on; although they pushed kickoff back a few hours to allow time for WNMU's home jerseys, practice pants and some old helmets to be driven to the game.

Nike donated new cleats.

Guys were literally trading helmets when the offense gave way to the defense and vice versa.

Down 14-13 at halftime, we can only imagine the talk that head coach Adam Clark gave his guys, trying to get them fired up...ok, maybe that would have been a poor choice of words...for the second half.  Whatever he said, it worked as the Mustangs came out and rallied for a 26-17 victory.

We're very glad no one was hurt.  Take a look at what was left of the bus.

Easily the best tweet of the night

Steven Sipple covers Nebraska football for HuskersExtra.com and the Lincoln Journal Star.

Minutes ago, he offered this one up for the world to enjoy...

"Thumbing through old #Huskers football media guides, I notice in 1976 the coaches' bios included their home phone numbers. Good old days."

Great tweet; but does make us wonder why he was flipping through the 1976 media guide.

Active FBS head coaches with 150 wins

We noticed that with their first two wins of the season, Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder has joined the list of active FBS coaches that have won 150 FBS games.  Impressive.

The complete list is as follows:

Joe Paterno with 403 wins

Mack Brown with 216 wins

Frank Beamer with 201 wins

Steve Spurrier with 189 wins

Gary Pinkel with 152 wins

Bill Snyder with 151 wins

Note this list only includes wins while at a BCS program.

Al Golden's got a great stat for you

Al Golden spoke with reporters today about their upcoming game against Kansas State (3:30 Saturday on ESPNU).

In his introductory remarks, Golden notes that since 1992 Kansas State is 50-5 during the month of September. We'll add to his statement, that K-State has only lost 3 times on the road (like they will be Saturday) during the month of September since 1992.  Impressive performance and scheduling.

Video to show your players...after scoring a TD, don't do this

Last night, Sam Bradford takes a quick two step drop, opens up left and throws to a back that had been split out wide.  The back drops it; but it was a backwards pass and thus a fumble.

Giants linebacker Michael Boley scoops and scores 70 yards later...

Then he throws the ball right in the face of a Giants video intern. What?

No TV Tuesday

Good night to stay late at work.  No live games on TV tonight.

Thursday night college football returns with 3 games...
