Joe Pa's legacy in statistics

ESPN's Stats and Information department did a great reflection over the weekend on Paterno's statistical legacy that he leaves behind. Take a look at our recap of the original article below.

- 409 wins rank second amongst all divisions. Only John Gagliardi of St. Johns (D-III - MN) has more wins (484).

- Paterno averaged almost 9 wins per season (8.9).

- Made 37 bowl appearances, winning 24 of those contests.

- Only six teams have more than 24 bowl wins in their school history.

- Paterno defeated 80 different teams during his tenure.

- Joe Pa coached a total of 548 games in his career.

- His coaching career spanned an impressive 12 Presidential administrations.

- Coached in over one third of the games in Nittany Lion football history.

Uncharted territory exciting for Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh has the 49ers sitting at 14-3 and one game away from the Super Bowl, and much of that can be attributed to the energy he's approached the situation with.

Back when the Niners opened up camp in August Harbaugh told the New York Times "I didn't want to be in any comfort zone, I didn't want to be in any kind of guaranteed situation. The fact that it was uncharted waters, try to figure out ways to do things, gave me energy."

"... I just like being the guy who throws rocks at the beehive every now and then."

Harbaugh and the Niners will take on the Giants Sunday night at 6:30 on FOX.
