Video: #StanfordSkills features players teaching drills and techniques

We noticed that Stanford is doing a new series of video shorts where they take the camera on the practice field to highlight some positional work with one of their players, and thought it's a pretty solid idea from a recruiting standpoint.

Perhaps Stanford's plan when creating these is to get more high school players watching, and learning, and therefore thinking about Stanford.

At the end of the day, I could really see recruits looking at this video (and others like it) and thinking to themselves, "I could see myself doing that with those guys," and that can be all it takes.

In their first one here, fifth-year senior linebacker AJ Tarpley teaches a few linebacker drills and techniques.

Watch North Dakota State's season trailer: "Welcome to the new age"

North Dakota State may be home to the last three FCS National Championships, but a new head coach and a #2 ranking entering this season means there's a relatively unfamiliar feeling in Fargo.

That sentiment comes across in their 2014 trailer released last night, and the music choice may be as good of a fit for the current state of the program as any clip I've come across in a long time.

Chris Klieman and the NDSU Bison open up their season against Iowa State on Saturday at noon EST. You can catch the game on Fox Sports 1.

Vance Bedford to Texas fans: "Get off your duff and go buy these tickets"

With Saturday's opener against North Texas approaching, Texas announced Wednesday it was still 9,000 tickets short of a sell out.

A full sell out has become rare since Texas expanded Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to 101,000-plus in 2009. A 15-11 home record over a four-year stretch tends to thin out the demand. But the excitement and intrigue a new coaching staff brings, plus the game broadcast placed exclusively on the still-limited Longhorn Network, figured to combine to fill out DKR. Not quite.

At his weekly media availability, Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford admonished the Longhorn faithful in a way only he can.

Additional context says Bedford was being less than serious throughout his answer, but either way this is good stuff.

Update to the Josh Shaw story: He made it all up

The end of the Josh Shaw saga was one that no one wanted to see, though it seemed like the only one possible after USC so quickly and violently distanced itself from him on Tuesday. He made the whole thing up.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian minced no words in his response. "We are extremely disappointed in Josh. He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story. I appreciate that Josh has now admitted that he lied and has apologized," Sarkisian said. "Although this type of behavior is out of character for Josh, it is unacceptable."

According to David Leon Moore of USA Today, USC officials doubted Shaw's story originally, with the sports information department and other athletics department officials spending "hours talking to Shaw and others in an attempt to vet the story," but could find anything to discredit it. Because Shaw was a team captain and highly respected by the people at USC, they ran with it.

One has to wonder why USC threw itself so strongly behind the story, with Sarkisian calling it "a heroic act" and saying it was an example of "the kind of person he is", if they had such serious doubts about the story, but that's a question athletics director Pat Haden is likely asking his staff right now.

Shaw has hired a lawyer, although that lawyer has stated, "there is no criminal aspect to this whatsoever." So, there's that.

USC has suspended Shaw indefinitely, but there is the immediate and all-too-real fact of Shaw's two sprained ankles that have to be dealt with before a return to the field can even become possible.
