Les at it again
Earlier today the first BCS polls came out listing LSU as #1. The Tigers edged out Alabama for the top spot.
When Les was asked what he thought about the news he responded
Well said Les.
California HS game goes 8 OTs
California high schools, Desert Hot Springs and Big Bear, completed an 8 overtime game Friday night that officially went down as the longest high school football game played in the state. The game was tied at 22 after regulation and lasted 4 hours and 19 minutes, with the final touchdown run coming at 11:27pm PST.
What makes this game even more impressive is that during the third overtime Big Bear faced a 3rd and 36. Big Bear ended up completing a 35 yard pass, and then scored on a 4th and 1 pass. After each team scored touchdowns in the first three overtimes, there wasn't a single point scored in the next three.
Unlike NCAA rules, CIF southern section California overtime regulations do not require teams to attempt a two point conversion after the third overtime.
Big Bear defeated Hot Springs 56-50, and captured a CIF championship. However, there was still plenty of work to be done for the coaches as they got busy working on the film. Our staff thinks its a safe bet that the film work kept the coaches busy into the early morning hours of Saturday.
Sarkisian off to a great start
Steve Sarkisian really had the Washington offense clicking in their 52-24 victory over Colorado Saturday.
In the first half alone, Washington scored on their first 6 possessions, 5 of them being touchdowns, as they built a 38-10 lead at the break. By the end of the game, 7 different Huskies had found the end zone.
First year starter Keith Price has gotten of to a fast start, throwing for 21 touchdowns on the season, which ranks just behind the national leader Robert Griffith III who has 22.
When Sarkisian was asked about the variety of the effectiveness of the play calling he responded,
"I'm not calling plays for a specific guy. We're calling the best plays for the moment and not concerned about who might be the guy and 'Can he make that play?' We have such belief in the guys on our football team right now."
That confidence will need to carry over as the 5-1 Huskies take on Stanford on Saturday.
Here's a look at the schedule for Monday.
All times are Eastern.
Miami Dolphins at New York Jets - 8:30 - ESPN
Sean Payton coaching second half from the press box
Update: Jennifer Hale, of ESPN, is reporting that Payton did not make it up to the press box and is monitoring the game from the locker room. A surgery is expected tomorrow (Monday) at the latest.
Update 2: This was a dangerous week to be a coach on either sideline in Tampa Bay. It is being reported that Bucs defensive backs coach, Jimmy Lake, tore his patella tendon after celebrating a game sealing interception and will likely undergo surgery during the teams bye week (Week 8).
After an on the field collision with between Sean Payton and Jimmy Graham, Payton will be spending the rest of the game up in the press box. Payton's left leg was caught under Graham during a sideline collision and the medical staff attended to him on the bench with his leg propped up and headset on. Initial reports are that Payton has a torn MCL and a broken bone in his leg.
We found it interesting that the Saints players took turns clearing out the sideline so that Payton could still see the game, before he was carted off the field down 20-7 with just under four minutes left in the first half against the Bucs.
Numerous reports are that the playcalling duties will fall into the lap of Drew Brees while Payton is in the box. Not bad hands to leave your offense in, if you ask us.
Schwartz and Harbaugh handshake gets heated
As the Lions and 49ers game ended, Schwartz and Harbaugh met at midfield for a firm handshake, and it looks as if emotions got the best of someone.
It is great to see some of the NFL's best up and coming coaches showing emotion after the win, but then things got a little rowdy. Harbaugh celebrated his teams win on his way out to midfield, and from the looks of the video below, Schwartz wasn't happy about something, and decided to talk a little further with Harbaugh.
A win never tasted so sweet
Our staff wanted to congratulate the staff at Olivet College (D3-Michigan) on picking up a 14-10 win against Kalamazoo yesterday.
After being down 10-0 at the half, the Comets came back to score all 14 of their points in the second half to end a 32 game losing streak that dates back to 2008.
The win gave Olivet their first conference win of the season, and they will be looking for win number two when they travel to Albion to take on the Britons this week.
Not Chip Kelly's typical post game interview
After the Oregon and Arizona state game last night, Chip Kelly had to remind a few students to quiet down.
After the Ducks 41-27 win, Kelly met Erin Andrews for the typical post game interview.
Just after the interview gets started, a few Oregon fans decided that they wanted their 15 seconds of fame. In typical Kelly fashion, he turns and tells the rowdy group to quiet down. We couldn't have said it better ourselves Chip.
