Navy loses another heartbreaker

Eastern Carolina got a very impressive outing from quarterback Dominique Davis Saturday as he completed his first 26 passes against Navy.

Davis went into the half 26 of 26, and his first incompletion came in his first attempt of the second half. The performance set a new NCAA record previously held by Cal's Aaron Rogers and Tennessee's Tee Martin who completed 23 straight. Davis had also completed his final 10 attempts the prior week against Memphis, so he also now holds the record for consecutive completions at 36 (Rodgers had it at 26).

Davis finished the game 40 of 45 for 372 yards and two touchdowns. Credit offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Lincoln Riley with helping Davis improve each week this season. Davis is completing 68.5% of his passes this season.

The loss was a heartbreaker for Navy who have now lost 5 straight. Navy had a chance to win it at the end; but a receiver was unable to maintain control of a pass in the end zone and then their kicker hit the upright on a game tying attempt as time expired.

Video below of head coach Ken Niumatalolo talking about how difficult these past few losses have been.

Dabo: "It's a special time to be a Tiger"

?

Clemson started the season without a single vote in the AP top 25 poll, now they sit number 5 in the BCS standings.  In Clemson history, only four other teams have started 8-0.

Saturday against North Carolina the offensive staff, led by quarterbacks coach / offensive coordinator Chad Morris, helped lead Tahj Boyd to a 6 touchdown performance (5 passing and one rushing).  Each of his 5 touchdown passes were to different receivers.  In the 3rd quarter alone, the offense went off for 4 touchdowns.

Boyd's success can also be attributed to the great job done by receivers coach Jeff Scott, who already has freshman receiver Sammy Watkins in the Clemson record books for receptions and touchdowns by a freshman.

Dabo talked about it being a special time to be a Tiger in his post game interview.

"It's a special time to be a Clemson Tiger. We have to learn from this tape and just keep doing what we do. We have to empty the tank this week in practice and then leave it all on the field at Georgia Tech."

Clemson will take on Georgia Tech Saturday at 8 Eastern on ABC.

Ron English has Eastern Michigan at 5-3

In their first 8 games, Ron English has led Eastern Michigan to a 5-3 record. Their only losses have come against Michigan, Penn State, and Toledo. Eastern hasn't won 5 games in a season since 1995. They only won 10 games total from 2006-2010 (5 seasons).

With four conference games yet to play, English has already led Eastern Michigan to their first 5 win season in 16 years, and has them in great shape to reach their first bowl game since 1987.

After their 14-10 against Western Michigan, the Eagles hoisted the MAC Michigan trophy, presented to the Michigan team that comes out on top during in state conference games.

Great job to English and the rest of the Eastern Michigan staff.

Miami defense stalls Georgia Tech's offense

Saturday marked the first time dating back to 2007 that Georgia Tech did not have a play of more than 20 yards.

Paul Johnson, who was hired in December 2007, brought the Georgia Tech offense into Saturday's game with Miami with a top 20 offense in numerous categories (5th in rushing, 17th in scoring, and 17th total offense).

Miami's defense stepped up and limited Tech's offense to zero rushes of 11 yards or more on their first 46 carries. Tech finished the game with 48 carries for 150 yards, well below their season average of 321 yards per game.

We're sure defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio, and the rest of the Hurricane defensive staff, will be getting plenty of calls and emails in the coming weeks from coaches wanting some insight on their game plan against the triple option.

Monday TV

A couple of quick notes. First, the Saints' offense was clicking Sunday night. Sean Payton might decide to stay up top the rest of the way if they keep scoring points like that (62-7 final over Indy). Second, in case you missed it yesterday...from now through the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we've got a live game on TV every single night. As for tonight...just one game, MNF.

All times Eastern.

"That was a blue collar butt whooping"

Western Kentucky lost their last 8 games in 2008. Didn't win one in 2009; and they lost their first 6 in 2010.

However, since week 7 of last season, Willie Taggart's bunch is 5-8 (Taggart was hired after the 2009 season).

Saturday they got their first home victory of the season (also the first since 2008...and the first ever home victory over an FBS opponent), 42-23 over Louisiana Lafayette (who came into the game 6-1, 4-0 in the Sun Belt). Coach Taggart's got himself a running back and a team that's willing to work hard and play as a team.

Watch the video and see sheer exuberance from the players after this win. Taggart's pride in the effort his guys showed on the field is evident. Given the historical significance of the win for his program, his words and pride seemed extremely justified.

Kiffin: I'm sure mass was full this morning in South Bend

Saturday night was supposed to be a big event for Notre Dame football. It was the first night game there in over 20 years. Music was piped in between plays (oh my) and they even rolled out special gold for the helmets. Clearly, a lot of planning went into this one.

Unfortunately for Notre Dame, Lane Kiffin had his guys well prepared for this one and USC came out on top 31-17.

The video below is pretty good as well; but we just noticed this quote from Lane from Sunday afternoon, "I'm sure mass was full this morning in South Bend after all the things that were said to us.

Video includes some of Kiffin's pre-game, halftime and post-game talks to his team.
