Auburn's new indoor practice facility

This offseason Auburn built a new indoor practice facility.

Nice video here focusing on the graphics added to dress the place up.  Pretty nice looking.

A Class Act

Kent State (Saban's alma mater) opens up at Alabama this weekend.  Tough opponent, difficult circumstances.

Hopefully, we all remember the tornadoes that tore through Tuscaloosa back in late April, devastating portions of the town.  Well, here's a part of the rebuilding that you might not have heard about.

In late July a number of players from Kent State's team travelled on their own down to T-Town to help in the rebuilding process.  They joined with players from Alabama's team in rebuilding a house for a family that had lost everything.

Video from that day

That's Class.

Fees for scheduling home games

A couple of notes caught our eye recently regarding the fees teams are receiving to play on the road.

This season, Tennessee has Montana, Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee and Buffalo all coming to play in Neyland Stadium.  Associated price tags: $500k for Montana, $950k for Cincinnati, $750 for Middle Tennessee and $900k for Buffalo....totalling $3.1 million.

In 2009, the Vols paid out a combined $2 million to Western Kentucky, UCLA, Ohio and Memphis.  In 2010, the total was $1.45 million to UT Martin, UAB and Oregon.

In 2009, Ohio State paid Navy $1.4 million to play them at Ohio Stadium and this season they are paying Colorado $1.4 million for a home game.  Last season, Auburn paid Arkansas State $1 million and this year Kent State will receive $1.2 million for playing at Alabama.

This season, Nebraska will pay a combined $1.075 million for 3 home games ($300k to Fresno State, $300k to Washington and $475k to Tennessee Chattanooga).  Those numbers are well down from what the Huskers have paid in prior years (in 2010 they paid $800k to South Dakota State and in 2009 they paid a combined $2.1 million to 3 Sun Belt teams).

Other recent reportings include Georgia paying Louisiana Monroe $1.2 million for a home game in 2015.

What dreams are made of

A new high school in Tennessee (Summit) fielded a football team this season for the first time ever.

The school, which only has freshmen and sophmores currently, opened their season with a bang (see video).  The young team didn't get the win; but those will come.  What a great way to open a program.

Good luck to coach Scott Keasler building a program.

A&M makes it official

Texas A&M just put out the following release:

TEXAS A&M TO SEEK AFFILIATION WITH ANOTHER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

NEWS RELEASE - August 31, 2011

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M University today officially notified the Big 12 Conference that the institution will submit an application to join another athletic conference. Should this application be accepted, Texas A&M will end its membership in the Big 12 Conference effective June 30, 2012.

There was plenty more thereafter; but that's what you need to know.

Are you allowed to play 11 fullbacks?

Might just be us here at FootballScoop but does anyone else think that Kevin Wilson would put 11 fullbacks on the field at any given time during the game?

Yep, probably is just us; but we've been watching what he's doing at Indiana and speaking with guys up there and the fact is he has reinvigorated that program.  No, they probably won't win a pile of games this year; but we're pretty sure they will battle on every play.

The program is headed in a good direction.

"You've never seen anything like this"

Charlie Weis sat down and spoke with some reporters yesterday.  He spent a few minutes gushing about the speed of running backs Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey.

Weis says the two are almost the same guy...and they are fast.

Question from reporter, "You say you've never had two guys that quick...you're just talking about at the college level, right?"

Weis: "Not close.  No I'm talking period.  Not college level, period.  Period.  And you know, everyone that comes in, all my boys from that other level, I say the same thing to them...you've never seen anything like this..."

Sounds like FAU is going to be seeing quite a bit of Demps and Rainey this weekend.
