Koenning talks about his next step
Illinois interim head coach Vic Koenning met with the media after practice today and took some time to talk about how things have been going since Illinois named Tim Beckman the new head coach of the Illini.
Koenning was candid about his conversation with Beckman about staying on staff as the defensive coordinator, and admits that he has some thinking to do.
We are aware of other major programs that have spoken with Vic. Not so sure he stays in Illinois; but we'll see.
Behind the scenes video: Justin Fuente's 1st day
Very interesting look at Justin Fuente's first morning on the job...before even being introduced.
Well done Memphis. Quick side note, is it just us or about the 3:11 mark is Fuente checking the FootballScoop App on his phone?
Charlie Strong: Looking to earn respect
Charlie Strong doesn't feel that Louisville is getting the respect that they deserve.
After starting off 2-4, the Cardinals rattled off wins in five of their last six games to finish at 7-5 and earned a share of the Big East crown with Cincinnati and West Virginia.
Strong felt that achievement warranted more than three Cardinals being selected to the Big East all conference teams (the fewest of any conference team), but understands that they are "a team that’s still young that needs to get better. Then someday we’ll get the respect we need to gain.”
“People thought Boise couldn't get it going and look at what they’re doing, you think about Virginia Tech — no one thought Virginia Tech could get it going. Look what they’re doing. Kansas State, look what they’re doing. So why can’t we take this program, build this program and watch it grow and develop?”
Louisville will take on NC State in the Belk Bowl on December 27th at 8 on ESPN.
Purple meet for seventh straight time in title game
It comes as no surprise to take a look at the Division III playoff bracket and find Mount Union and Wisconsin Whitewater meeting in the National Title game for the seventh season in a row.
The two teams have split the previous six meetings, with Whitewater taking home the crown the past two seasons. The combined score of the past six meetings between the two teams is an impressive 171 - 170. You'd be hard pressed to find a more evenly matched national championship game at any level.
Whitewater brings the nation's longest winning streak at 44 games into Friday's contest, while Mount Union is making their 15th appearance in the Stagg Bowl. Kickoff will take place at 7pm eastern in Salem, Virginia and will be televised on ESPN2.
Sumlin introduced at A&M
Texas A&M held a press conference yesterday to introduce Kevin Sumlin as the new head coach of the Aggie program.
Athletic director Greg Byrne said that Sumlin's contract is a 5 year deal worth about $2 million per year.
Sumlin was very direct and focused during the press conference, and voiced his intent on hitting the road to speak to recruits immediately following the opportunity to meet with his new players.
"Dance like no one is watching"
Some guys do it in the shower...
The Miami (OH) equipment guy does it on the practice field.
Schnellenberger video tribute
FAU released a great video earlier today highlighting the career of Howard Schnellenberger.
Schnellenberger has left a lasting legacy at each stop in his coaching career, from his time under Bear Bryant, to winning Super Bowl's under Don Shula, to his last coaching stop where he built the FAU program from the ground up.
The video shows Schnellenberger as a man that has built each program with integrity and passion, and his contributions to the coaching community are immeasurable.
