Dooley believes Bama may have best defense in modern era

Our staff just had the opportunity to take a look at Derek Dooley's press conference, and he's trying his best to seem upbeat going into this weeks game with Alabama and their top ranked defense. Tennessee is coming off a 38-7 loss to top ranked LSU and will face their second straight top 5 defense this weekend.

Dooley gave Alabama's defense a huge compliment, fast forward to the 3:35 mark to hear him talk about Saban and this years defense.

"Probably as physically dominant of a defense as I've seen in the modern era of football"

This year the defense is allowing 7 points per game, and have been dominant against both the run (1st nationally allowing 38 yards per game) as well as against the pass (5th nationally allowing 146 yards per game). The Tide's defense is allowing only 184 total yards of offense per game total. Dominant seems to be a logical statement.

What makes the those numbers even more impressive is that they have been on the field for 66 more snaps than Michigan State, who is the second ranked defense in the country.

Stanford's impressive offensive numbers

It's no secret that Andrew Luck is leading one of the top offenses in the country, #16 in total offense to be exact.

Luck has had plenty of time to distribute the ball from the pocket, as Stanford's offensive line has only allowed 1 sack so far this season.  In comparison, Pittsburgh has allowed the most sacks in the country, allowing 34.

However, after taking a look at the numbers through Stanford's first six games, the role of the tight ends is the most impressive stat. The Cardinal tight ends have hauled in an impressive 59 catches for 980 yards and 15 touchdowns.

First year head coach David Shaw and Luck will need to continue the offensive production as they take on Washington Saturday (ESPN - 8p - EST).

Utah State has yet to throw an INT this season

As our staff poured through some statistics through Week 7, we found one in particular very impressive.  Utah State is the only team in the FBS yet to throw an interception.

True freshman Chuckie Keaton has thrown 137 passes without an interception.  Keaton is completing 61% of his passes, and has thrown for over a thousand yards in his first 6 college starts

Working to Keatons advantage has been the Aggie run game which ranks 6th nationally, and first in the WAC at 298.8 yards per game.

After almost knocking off Auburn in a Week 1 thriller, Utah State is sitting at 2-4 going into this weeks game against Louisiana Tech (3p - Eastern).  Watchful eyes will be on Chuckie Keaton to keep his impressive streak alive.  Aggies quarterback coach Matt Wells is doing a great job out there with his alma mater.

Texas high school offense rewrites the record books

This past Friday night, Fort Worth Southwest and Forth Worth Arlington Heights met to battle for the top spot in their Texas 4A District.  What fans witnessed was an impressive offensive showing by Southwest that rewrote the record books.

Southwest receiver Robbie Rhodes had a night he will never forget, catching an impressive 8 touchdown passes, each of those coming from at least 20 yards out.  Rhodes pulled in a total of 10 receptions for 394 yards, which stands as a Texas single game record, and ranks 11th nationally.  The 8 touchdowns tie a national record set in 1998.

Distributing the ball to Rhodes was quarterback, Wesley Harris, who finished 20-30 for 564 yards and threw one more incompletion (10), than total touchdowns (9).  Harris now holds the Texas high school single game touchdown record, and was one touchdown shy of joining five others who hold the national record with 10 in a single game.

Fort Worth Southwest went on to win the game 66-21 and secured a top spot in District 6-4A.  Great job by the staff putting on an offensive show that kept the fans on the edge of their seat the entire game.
