Coach Speak: Stanford's Jason Tarver

In Stanford's latest addition to their "Coach Speak" series they sit down with co-defensive coordinator / inside linebackers coach Jason Tarver.

Tarver talks about the defensive coaches two main priorities at Stanford being #1 to make players better on the field and in the classroom, and #2 to get all 11 guys to know where each other are, and to swarm to the football.

Tarver also touches on their teaching progression and how they categorize their defensive calls to make things easier on the players.

As always, there's some great practice clips of Coach Tarver in action during practice as well. The five minutes below are well worth a look.

Video: Jim Mora on his first signing day

Jim Mora got an early start to the morning, arriving at the office well before 4 am prepared to receive faxes from many of UCLA's east coast recruits.

While today ends the pursuit of 2012 recruits, Mora keeps things in perspective saying "..quite frankly, it all starts again tomorrow for 2013".

Mora says that he has been lucky to assemble a staff full of experienced recruiters, and he is learning a great deal about the recruiting process from them.

Cristobal issues statement

After a very eventful 24 hours, Mario Cristobal released a statement earlier today.

“It is a tremendous privilege to be the head coach at FIU, we have a great thing going here and I am excited about the future of the program. Over the past five seasons we have been building something special. Our success has gone beyond the field, as our student-athletes have also excelled academically on their way to earning a very valuable diploma." Cristobal said.

"I am also proud of our team’s continued involvement in the community. My goal is to see this program continue to develop and grow into a major football power. I want our fans to know that I am dedicated to this goal.”

FIU exectutive director of sports and entertainment Pete Garcia voiced his excitement about Cristobal staying at FIU, saying "What Mario has accomplished over the past five seasons is exceptional. It has always been my goal to have the very best coaches here at FIU."

Garcia went on to state that Cristobal is one of the brightest young coaches in the country, and the team continues to become more and more prominent on the national landscape because of Cristobal's passion for the University.

One on one with Ted Roof

GoPSUsports.com caught up with Ted Roof earlier to talk about how his first few weeks in Happy Valley have been.

Roof chats about what attracted him to Penn State, his coaching style and philosophy, his first impressions of the atmosphere at Penn State and what he thinks of Bill O'Brien as a person and coach.

Roof said that one of the first things he did was to pull up the long list of coaches and players that have come out of Penn State, and it helped him realize that Penn State "isn't just another school, this is Penn State". Interesting observation.

Roof added that the last time he was in State College was 1987 or '88. Fascinating.

What will you be doing on National Signing Day?

One year ago, this video (and FootballScoop.com) helped make Charles Huff, offensive quality control at Vanderbilt, famous.

OK, yes, he did the hard work, and without Vandy having the foresight to have the cameras rolling none of this would have been possible, so yeah, they deserve the credit.

So we ask, who will be this year's Charles Huff? Send videos to
