Leach weighs in on scripting plays

There are a couple schools of thought out there when it comes to scripting your first offensive series or two on game day.
You're either a coordinator who comes up with a script and sticks to it regardless of down and distance to see how the defense will align to certain formations early on in the game, or one that has a script but can adjust it according to down and distance. Or if you're like Mike Leach, you go into a game with an overall game plan, thinking that scripting your exact plays and sticking with them regardless of down and distance is unnecessary.
Leach noted yesterday after practice that they go into each week with a game plan that can be adjusted accordingly to situations throughout the game, but considers having the first handful of plays scripted "crazy".
"Some of these articles that I've read on scripting are just crazy. These guys act like 'Oh, number three is this so you have to run...' I mean it's just crazy. Bill Walsh got the most famous for it but it had been going on for quite some time."
"But no matter who you are you've got to prioritize what your going to feature in your practice."
