Ball State head coach Pete Lembo mic'd up

In a dozen seasons as a head coach, Pete Lembo has endured only one losing campaign and never won fewer than five games. In fact, Lembo will seek to reach the 100 win milestone before hitting his 50th career loss this fall. And with a team that won its last six regular season games, and returns MAC fifth-leading rusher Jahwan Edwards and quarterback Keith Wenning (who ranked fourth in the conference in total offense), chances are he'll get there.

The third-year head coach was mic'd up for a recent Ball State practice, and he spent the majority of his time working with the Cardinals' special teams. "The special teams have given me an opportunity to really coach the entire team. Guys on offense, guys on defense, the specialists," Lembo said. "When the head coach is ultra-involved in special teams, the players take it seriously. You look at us the last two years, in getting the program turned around, special teams have been a huge asset to us in winning a lot of close games."

"I love the administrative aspects of the job and I love working with the players off the field whether it's on academics or their personal development, but it is nice to just cut loose for a couple hours and focus on football," Lembo concluded.
