Bruce Arians explains what made Bear Bryant special
As Jim Rome points out during his interview with new Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, it's not everyday that you get a chance to sit down and talk with a coach that had the opportunity to work alongside one of the most legendary coaches of all time.
Back in the early 80's Arians coached the running backs under Bear Bryant, and explains that part of what made Bryant legendary was that he was a "master of personnel". During games they would play 66 players every game...substituting for every single player.
That's pretty incredible.
Arians also talks about his emotional journey as the interim head coach of the Colts while Chuck Pagano dealt with cancer treatments. Arians talks about how he sent a message to the team and franchise every day by not allowing the light to be turned off in Pagano's office until he returned, as well as the symbolic decisions to leave his seat open on the bus, and to always have his locker ready during game day.
