From D2 to OSU, Mike Yurcich receives major salary boost

Mike Yurcich took a long ride up the career elevator in January when Mike Gundy plucked him from Division II Shippensburg University to become replace Todd Monken as Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator. As Gina Mizell reported in the Oklahoman, his bank account has come along for the ride.

After making $52,500 in 2012 at Shippensburg, Yurcich will earn $400,000 in his first season at Oklahoma State. The new salary gives him a raise of more than 700 percent. Monken, now the head coach at Southern Miss, earned $600,000 in his final season with the Cowboys.

According to the numbers we published late last month, Yurcich's salary ranks third among the eight Big 12 offensive coordinators whose salaries are made public. The 37-year-old will trail only Texas' Major Applewhite and Oklahoma's Josh Heupel among his conference peers.

The rest of Oklahoma State's assistant coaching salaries have yet to be revealed, but Yurcich will most likely not be the Cowboys' highest-paid offensive assistant. According to USA Today's salary database, Oklahoma State offensive line coach Joe Wickline pulled in $440,000 in 2012.
