50+ pass attempts without a TD for two NFL QB's
This past week of NFL action saw two NFL quarterbacks attempt 50 or more passes without throwing for a touchdown. Since 1960, that feat has happened only 47 other times, and last week marks only the second time that two quarterbacks did it in the same week.
Matthew Stafford (Detroit) went 30 for 51 for 319 and no touchdowns yesterday and on Thursday Brandon Weeden (Cleveland) went 25-52 for 320 yards without a touchdown throw.
That adds up to 103 passing attempts between two NFL quarterbacks (an established starter and a rookie, both first round picks) without a touchdown. The last time that two quarterbacks had 50 pass attempts without a touchdown was 1996 with Drew Bledsoe (Patriots) and Dave Brown (Giants) in losing efforts.
When you look back the last ten times a quarterback has thrown the ball 50+ times without a touchdown, Brett Favre's name is in the record book on four different occasions.
