OU, OSU and Tulsa band together

The BYU defense has gone 10 games without allowing 300 yards

BYU and Hawaii square off tonight in a match up that where Norm Chow will face a former school that he coached at for the second time in four games (week one against USC being the other one). Chow previously served as an assistant coach at BYU for 27 seasons, most of those coming under LaVell Edwards.

Coach Chow will try be trying for win number two on the year, against a BYU defense that has played pretty solid through four games. The Cougars have gone 10 straight games without allowing 300 yards to any offense. That streak includes games against TCU and Tulsa last year and Washington State, Utah and Boise State this season.

The last time BYU allowed more than 300 yards of offense was the middle of October of last season, when Oregon State racked up 365 total yards of offense. Hawaii's offense has put up at least 300 yards in the past two games, falling short (264 total yards) against USC in the season opener.

Despite the strong defensive performance, BYU (2-2) has dropped two straight after handily winning their first two games of the season (30-6 over Washington State and 45-13 over Weber State).

We saw a note earlier in the week that in the eight seasons under Bronco Mendenhall, BYU has only had a winning record twice through their first four games. That's mind boggling considering that Mendenhall has reached the 10 win mark in five of his seven seasons as the head coach.

Hawaii and BYU kick off at 8pm ET on ESPN.

Samuels joined the FootballScoop staff after serving as a college scout as well as an assistant coach at the college level, where he was fortunate enough to have coached every offensive position by age 24. Samuels is lifelong Michigan State fan and has admittedly enjoyed the past few seasons when he has been able to look forward to quality football the entire fall, instead of anxiously awaiting college basketball after the first few weeks of the college football season.
