Upgrades on the way for San Jose State

"You're teaching everyday"

Indiana State head coach Trent Miles is in his fifth year leading the Sycamore football program. After getting his first win in 2009, Coach Miles found a way to win 6 games the next season, matched by a six win season last year as well.

This spring Miles says that the players have shown a lot of excitement and have been able to persevere through the intense physical demands of the off season conditioning program. During practice the other day, Miles talked with the media about the off season and spring ball and what he enjoys about the coaching profession.

"You're teaching everyday" Miles explains. "Whether you're on the field, or in the meeting room, or in and around the office, anytime you can, you're teaching".

Miles says that coaches get into the profession knowing the hours they have to put in. "We don't get into it thinking we're going to have a bunch of vacation time, this is what we love to do. It's a thrill to be out here. You get enough family time, you always wish you could have more, but at the same time this (practice) is family time".

{module 174} Doug Samuels has been with FootballScoop since 2011. Samuels joined the FootballScoop staff after serving as a college scout as well as an assistant coach at the college level, where he was fortunate enough to have coached every offensive position by age 24. Samuels is lifelong Michigan State fan and has admittedly enjoyed the past few seasons when he has been able to look forward to quality football the entire fall, instead of anxiously awaiting college basketball after the first few weeks of the college football season.
