Cristobal issues statement

After a very eventful 24 hours, Mario Cristobal released a statement earlier today.

“It is a tremendous privilege to be the head coach at FIU, we have a great thing going here and I am excited about the future of the program. Over the past five seasons we have been building something special. Our success has gone beyond the field, as our student-athletes have also excelled academically on their way to earning a very valuable diploma." Cristobal said.

"I am also proud of our team’s continued involvement in the community. My goal is to see this program continue to develop and grow into a major football power. I want our fans to know that I am dedicated to this goal.”

FIU exectutive director of sports and entertainment Pete Garcia voiced his excitement about Cristobal staying at FIU, saying "What Mario has accomplished over the past five seasons is exceptional. It has always been my goal to have the very best coaches here at FIU."

Garcia went on to state that Cristobal is one of the brightest young coaches in the country, and the team continues to become more and more prominent on the national landscape because of Cristobal's passion for the University.

{module 174} Doug Samuels has been with FootballScoop since 2011. Samuels joined the FootballScoop staff after serving as a college scout as well as an assistant coach at the college level, where he was fortunate enough to have coached every offensive position by age 24. Samuels is lifelong Michigan State fan and has admittedly enjoyed the past few seasons when he has been able to look forward to quality football the entire fall, instead of anxiously awaiting college basketball after the first few weeks of the college football season.
