Dave Doeren talks about his plan for NIU football
Dave Doeren spent 2 hours digging snow out of his driveway yesterday. He then spent another 2 hours driving through a blizzard to get to Dekalb, Illinois.
Today, he’s officially the head football coach at Northern Illinois.
Moments ago, Doeren finished his introductory press conference. Here are some quotes:
“You are getting someone who is very proud to be here. It was crazy to get here yesterday.”
“The first thing I told the team was that they should be very proud for what they have accomplished.”
“I believe in a physical brand of football.”
“As far as building a staff, that’s something I’ve been working through over the last 7 days, once I got the call to interview.”
“I do not want to be the guy that runs the defense or the offense. The x and o’s will have my brand on it, trust me, but I’m not going to be calling the plays on game day.”
“Offensively, it’s going to be built off what’s going on here already. We are going to be balanced. We are going to incorporate a lot of shifts and motions.”
You can watch the first part of the press, right here.
Doeren spent the last five seasons as the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin. He will coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl.
