LSU using all-freshman coverage team to evaluate

Les Miles described the 100-plus play scrimmage in Tiger Stadium on Thursday as “a very physical scrimmage.”

We noticed an interesting coaching strategy from Miles in the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper.

According to The Advocate sportswriter Gary Laney, “(Les) Miles said an all-freshman coverage team was put together to cover kicks against the first return team. He said film of their efforts will help evaluate freshmen who might contribute immediately on special teams.”

Miles added, "We're in the tight zone, red zone for the most of the day. I think our longest drive had the opportunity to go 70 yards for one series. We kind of looked at specific coverages and some of the situations that surround red zone and tight zone."

LSU opens the season against UNC in the Georgia Dome.  Kick-off is set for 8 pm EST on ABC.

The Tigers will need to "Bring the Boom." (See video)
