Miami AD Kirby Hocutt details his talk with Jon Gruden: “Gruden was cordial, he listened to everything UM had to say but no offer was made. He said he didn't want to go further because he is keeping all his options open, including the NFL. He didn't say yes. He didn't say no. But in effect, it's probably a no because it will take months before the NFL jobs come open and UM can't wait that long.''
Lane Kiffin’s response when asked about Cam Newton: "I didn't even see anything. We've scored two touchdowns in two weeks, so I'm not really worried about other people's issues.”
Jim Harbaugh explains why Andrew Luck should win the Heisman Trophy: “In terms of what the Heisman is about, it’s the person who strives for excellence with the utmost integrity. Andrew is pure excellence on the field. You see the same excellence in the classroom, and he has the utmost integrity. If I had to put my life in another man’s hands, in terms of integrity, it would be Andrew.’’
“His ability when the game is on the line to perform at a higher level. That, to me, separates the good ones from the great ones. He’s cold-blooded, calm and even more focused, all at the same time. He’s the best player I’ve been around, either on the same team or coached.”
Quoting Arizona State head coach Dennis Erickson: "I see the improvement, the growth of the athletes. I know where we are, and where we need to be. I've done it before. This has taken longer than I would've liked, but I think the players see the light at the end of the tunnel," Erickson said. "And I'd like to stick around here."
Washing State head coach Paul Wulff puzzled by endless concussions: "It seems like every two or three weeks, guys are getting these concussions that are quote, concussions. Since I've been here, we're getting more concussions than I've seen in my entire life. Every game, we're losing guys. You just can't have it the way we're having it right now."
