Bill Clark will be the new head coach at UAB

Jacksonville State head coach Bill Clark is expected to be UAB's next head coach, sources told FootballScoop on Sunday night.

Clark coached one season at Jacksonville State, leading the Gamecocks to a third-place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference, a trip to the FCS quarterfinals and an 11-4 overall record.

A 1990 Jacksonville State graduate, the vast majority of Clark's coaching experience comes in the Yellowhammer State. Prior to the Jacksonville State job, Clark spent five seasons as the defensive coordinator at South Alabama - helping the Jaguars lead the Sun Belt in total defense in 2012, their first year in the league. In 2010, South Alabama allowed just 13 points and 254.6 yards per game en route to a 10-0 season, and the Jaguars permitted a scant 5.9 points and 234 yards per game in 2009 while also registered 25 sacks and 23 turnovers in a seven-game season.

Before joining the college ranks, Clark was an extremely successful high school coach. He led Prattville (Ala.) to a pair of Class 6A championships, posting a 30-game winning streak in the process. His 2007 squad was ranked No. 2 nationally by USA Today. Overall, Clark was 107-11 as a high school coach and is 118-15 overall as a head coach.

The move brings the FBS head coaching carousel to a close, as UAB becomes the 20th of 20 schools to fill its head coaching vacancy. At the FCS level, Jacksonville State is now the 26th school to change head coaches between the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

As always, we'll have more updates as they become available.
