Syracuse with a big win over West Virginia

Doug Marrone got a big win for the program last night with a 49-23 victory over West Virginia. This was the first win over WVU at the Carrier Dome in a decade.

Coming off a bye week, defensive coordinator Scott Shafer had his guys ready to play. The Orange defense held West Virginia's offense to nearly 100 yards less than their average (even more impressive considering the large lead they had in the 4th and WVU trying to sling it around to catch up). The plan certainly included pressuring the quarterback which they did all night (including 4 sacks) which produced 2 interceptions of Geno Smith.

On offense, Nate Hackett's guys produced 23 first downs, were 70% on 3rd down conversions and were able to rush for nearly 200 and throw for about 250.

In the first half, the Orange scored on a run, a pass and a 98 yard kickoff return. Four more touchdown in the second half put the Mountaineers away.

Both Syracuse and West Virginia are now 5-2, 1-1 in the Big East.
