Cincinnati releases renderings of $86 million stadium renovations

Like Pi from "Life of Pi" wanted to get off that boat, Cincinnati desperately wants to get out of the American Athletic Conference and into the ACC, or the Big 12, or the Pac-12, or really anywhere but the conference they're currently in. Can you blame them? When looking at factors conferences value - media markets, history, support - they're the best free agent out there. When the realignment game of musical chairs stopped, the Cincinnati was the last school left standing.

To go anywhere beyond where they are now, the Bearcats have to upgrade Nippert Stadium. And now that's about to happen. The school announced Thursday plans for an $86 million renovation to the 112-year old structure. The privately-funded project will begin in December and should be complete in time for the 2015 season.

Stadium upgrades include bumping capacity to 40,000, a new press box, more suites and club seats, and new concourses, concession stands and restrooms.

“As we promised back in June we wanted to share with the Bearcat Family the exciting progress being made in the stadium design,” Babcock said in the school's release. “As these renderings demonstrate, Nippert Stadium will add another signature facility in the heart of our beautiful campus. There will be some more tweaks and changes regarding design in the coming months. These renderings are close to final but still conceptual at this point.”

There's no telling where the new-and-improved Nippert Stadium takes Cincinnati, but at the very least they'll have the nicest stadium in the Queen City.
