Officials to wear wireless headsets during games?

We just saw this article from Jon Solomon of The Birmingham News and honestly found it pretty interesting.

Apparently both the SEC and the Big Ten tested a system this Spring in which officials would wear wireless communication devices during games.  Plenty has to get worked; but logically a back judge 50 yards down the field calls interference, he could then simply tell the referee the call from back there rather than the two of them having to jog to each other to discuss first. Seems logical enough.

Solomon notes that this system has been used for years in European Soccer leagues very successfully.

Best part of the article is that Les Miles allowed the system to be used at LSU's Spring game; but only under one condition...that he be allowed to listen in (which he did).  Gotta love Les!

Full article can be read here. Very interesting.
