Some interesting quotes and news from around the country:

Brian Kelly says 9 freshman are ‘on the bus’ for the Irish: “There are six guys on offense that are freshman, it’s the most I’ve ever had in 20 years of coaching, that will be eating breakfast with the team when we are ready to play. 6 on offense, 3 on defense, you’ve got 9 freshman right now that will be on the bus.”

Oregon State head coach Mike Riley on the Scott Van Pelt show: “We’re doing more live (contact) stuff than we’ve ever done.  We’ve installed a little differently than we’ve done (in the past).”

Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen say Cowboys are faster: “I can just tell you that we are faster, significantly faster. Every kid in the program is faster than they were a year and a half ago,” he said. “Not just new kids in the program. We’ve developed the speed of everybody here, also.”

“I love reading people’s press guides that tell me all their times, strengths and speeds. We read every article on every team that we’re playing that comes out the entire season. I’d just as soon not talk about ours.”

Quoting Minnesota Gophers’ wide receivers coach Steve Watson: "I had a scout tell me one year that Anquan Boldin can't run. Bad 40 time. He's only a 4.7 [seconds]. Eight Pro Bowls later... To me, there's football speed, and there's track speed, how you run the forty.  And neither one of them mean anything."

Quoting Bill Stewart: “If all I do is to teach them how to catch and tackle, I’ve failed miserably as a football coach.”
